The birth of the child resulted in blaming and accusing, leading to major disputes between the two clans, eventually erupting into a long war between them that would greatly effect the events of the series going forward. As a result, the witch was imprisoned for life and the sage was exiled from his clan. This law prophesied that the intersection of light and dark would bring calamity to the world. This peace was broken when an Umbra Witch and a Lumen Sage fell in love and conceived a child, breaking a long held law between the two clans. The two clans worked together to maintain balance in the world and remained peaceful for a very long time.
The Umbra Witches practiced the Dark Arts and affiliated themselves with the Demons of Inferno, and the Lumen Sages practiced the Light Arts, associating themselves with the Angels of Paradiso. The Left Eye of Darkness was entrusted to the Umbra Witches, and the Right Eye of Light was given to the Lumen Sages.
